Big Congratulations to our first and second class children who received their First Holy Communion on Saturday. Huge work was put in by all the teachers and children in the school in preparation for this special day. They all looked beautiful and did the school and their families proud.
The weather has been perfect for gardening and the children have been out and about planting and weeding. We have planted beans, salads and lots of vegetables and are looking forward to a bumper harvest. Thanks to our resident gardening expert Ale for always taking care of our garden and teaching the children so much about growing their own food
Congratulations to Ravenclaw on winning the house cup today. Points were awarded throughout Miss O Donohoe’s placement for correct homework and well done work in class, participation in class and overall good behaviour. Well done everyone!
We had our final session this week with Katerina Gribkoff from the Burren College of Art. During her time with us, we have learnt how to forage for plants and make dyes from them, we have looked to the plants and flowers growing around us for inspiration and we have created our own sketches, painted using these natural dyes. The final paintings, which can be seen below, will be exhibited as part of Cruinniú na nóg at the Burren College of Art on Saturday 11th of June.
The children in both rooms had a visit from one of our school parents, Nicola Kilroe, Advanced Paramedic with the National Ambulance Service. Nicola spoke to the children about her job and how they can help make it easier for her by knowing how to call for emergency services and and knowing their eircodes. We had a tour of her car, got to try out some of the equipment and even got to ring the siren. Thanks very much Nicola!

The children in the senior room have been learning about the 1916 Easter Rising this week
The children took part in the FAI Primary School 5s today. Children from 1st class up were divided into 4 teams for a school blitz. The sun shone on us and everyone had a great time showcasing their soccer skills. We were even treated to an exhibition game from the junior and senior infants! Well done to Miss Kavanagh and Anna for organising and running the day
This term we began weekly literacy station teaching in the junior room. We have four stations focussing on reading, writing, comprehension and use of technology. The children get to spend 10 minutes at each station before moving on. Station teaching allows teachers to work with smaller groups, covering multiple topics and activities, maximising their time with the students and gaining more knowledge about children’s learning styles as well as identifying potential areas for improvement. The children have been loving stations and are highly engaged each week.
