The children have been working with Katerina Gribkoff on the project for the past number of months, they have learnt how to make their own inks and dyes from plants and flowers, they have explored their own locality for inspiration and they have each produced a beautiful ink watercolour based on a Burren flower. The whole process has been documented in video with voiceovers by the children as well as poetry and song composed and performed by the children
Today we travelled to the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan to see our finished ink drawings on display and to present our documentary to our school parents.
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg, a day of free creativity for children, which takes place on June 11th, the paintings will be available to be viewed by the public on this date and the documentary will be available to view online on Creative Ireland Clare Facebook page and on the Clare library Youtube channel
The senior room children got to try out their home-made anemometers today. An anemometer is a device that is used to measure wind (something there is an abundance of in Fanore), specifically its speed and direction.
The children in the senior room took part in two workshops this week:
Plastics Problems Workshop
This introduced the students to the science of plastic, what it is, where it comes from, different types of plastics and the problems caused to the environment by plastics
Transport for the Future
Here the children explored transport and the impacts of transport on people, the planet and sustainability. The children even got to design their own potential transport solutions
The children in the senior room have been working with Ms Coyle on their interpretation of Caherconnell Fort for the past number of weeks. In doing this they explored working with clay, papier maché, paint, and felting. The final wonderful model will be displayed in the Caherconnell Fort visitor centre this summer. Well done all!
Very well done to our students who took part in the Burren Marathon Challenge yesterday on a very sunny Saturday. A big thank you is due to the event organisers, Ballyvaughan-Fanore Walking Club who kindly gifted vouchers allowing free entry to the race to all students and teachers in the school.
The children of the big room have been studying The Great Famine for the past number of weeks. They are reading the novel Under the Hawthorn Tree in class and presented projects on The Famine this week.
We celebrated the end of our block of swimming lessons with a cool treat this afternoon🍦🍦
Some excellent rockets from the junior room this week. Future engineers in the making!
Well done to our five girls from the senior room who took part in the Cuman na mBunscoil Division 3 blitz this week in Corofin. The team was made up of girls from Fanore NS, Ballyvaughan NS, Carron NS and New Quay NS. They played 3 games, winning one and almost winning a second. Thank you to the trainers and parents to brought the girls and supported them.
We have been very lucky to have had Miss O Donohoe with us for the past 10 weeks on her final teaching placement. She has been an integral part of our school since early March teaching, singing, playing and helping out with many different school occasions. We have learnt so much from her and had a lot of fun along the way. We wish her the very best in her future career and know that she is going to be amazing
